About The Curtain Café : Modern Heritage Living - New Forest, England
We built a shop around one idea.
The café curtain has been dressing windows for centuries. You'll find them in farmhouse kitchens in Normandy, in Georgian townhouses, in the kind of interiors that look considered without trying too hard. And over the last few years, they've been having a very well-deserved moment - appearing in homes, in magazines, on every interiors account worth following.
But for all that attention, there wasn't a proper home for them. No specialist. No curated range of fabrics chosen specifically for the format. No made-to-measure service built around the particular demands of a café curtain - the drop, the heading, the gather, the way light moves through the fabric at different times of day.
So we built one.
Who we are
The Curtain Café is based in the New Forest, Hampshire - and the location feels right for what we're doing. Unhurried. Natural. A little bit considered. The same qualities we look for in every fabric we stock.
Behind the shop is a team with years of experience in the made-to-measure curtain trade, working with thousands of customers and learning - properly - what makes a window treatment work. That expertise sits behind everything we do here, from the fabrics we choose to the way we cut and finish every order.
We're small enough to care about every curtain we make. We're experienced enough to get it right.
What we make
Café curtains are our heartland. A curated range of sheers, linen-look fabrics, woven textures and embroidered designs - each one chosen because it works at a café-style window, in the right drop, with the right finish.
Alongside our café curtain range you'll find coordinating curtains, blinds and hardware - chosen to work together properly rather than just coexist. Everything in the shop has been selected with the same eye, the same values, and the same understanding of what makes a room feel finished.
Every curtain is made to your exact measurements. Not approximate. Not standard sizing with a hem allowance. Yours - cut and finished in our Hampshire workroom by people who know what they're doing.
Why café curtains
There's something quietly brilliant about a café curtain. It gives you privacy where you need it - the lower half of the window, the eye-level view from the street or the garden - while keeping the light coming in above. No compromise. No heavy lining. No blocking out the sky to get a bit of privacy at the sink.
And when the fabric is right - when it's a considered linen-look sheer or a softly brushed voile in a tone that works with the rest of the room - it does something a blind or a full-length curtain rarely manages. It makes the window feel dressed without making the room feel smaller.
That's what we're here for.
How we work
Every order is made to measure from our workroom in Hampshire. You give us your window width and your drop - we cut, finish and dispatch. Most orders are with you within 7-10 working days.
Not sure on a fabric before you commit? Samples are available across the range. We'd always suggest checking a fabric in your own light before ordering - colours and textures can look different on screen, and the right sample takes the guesswork out of it entirely.
If you have a question - about sizing, about which fabric suits your window, about how to hang them - we're here. A real team, with real knowledge, who actually like talking about curtains.
Our values
We believe in buying well and buying once. The fabrics we stock are chosen for longevity as much as looks - designs that won't date, textures that improve with washing, colours that sit easily in a room for years rather than seasons.
We care about where our fabrics come from and how they're made. We're a small business - we can't change everything at once - but we're thoughtful about the choices we make, and we're working towards a range that we're proud of on every level.
Come and find us
We're online only for now - but we're always reachable. Whether you have a question about an order, need help with sizing, or just want to talk through which fabric might work for your window, drop us a message and someone will get back to you.
